The risk of injury can be lowered
When staff are properly trained on how to keep themselves safer in the classroom injuries can go down. When injuries go down so do workers' comp claims, missed days, and staffing problems.
Staff retention may improve
The cost of replacing staff who leave specialized programs is real — these positions are hard to fill, and every departure can create a gap that has to be covered in the meantime. When staff feel safer though, fewer may leave or ask to be placed elsewhere.
